Personal Projects
There idea behind Personal Projects: Children can learn anything to which they put their minds.
There is so much opportunity for children to be able to explore their interests and expand their skills, particularly with the available technology. Parents are encouraged to oversee Internet usage for things like Youtube where one can learn almost anything under the sun. Some favourites have been origami, knitting, building projects, juggling, soccer tricks, magic, card tricks, card games, jewelry making, and learning an instrument. Skills improved have been basketball layups, the splits, riding a ripstick, bouncing a hockey ball on a stick, skateboard tricks, and roller blading. Outside help in the way of family support and music/sport teachers is totally welcome.

A - Plan - Initial Presentation
After completing a plan of what you will do and how you will get there, give a brief 30 second talk to the class telling about the goal. Also maybe a demo of your starting point. Everyone will present on the same day. Very little practice involved - keep it simple. Tuesday, December 3
|
B - Practice - Carry out the plan
Get it done! Doing it more frequently in shorter chunks usually makes for longer-lasting learning. |
C - Mid-way or Completed Presentation
Based on the complexity of your goal, you will be assigned a presentation date. You may or may not be finished, but there should be improvement or a part-way completed project to show. You will also explain your process to the class, any interesting stories, and what your future plans will be with this topic. |
